Dr. Waite was introduced to ophthalmology while working as an ophthalmic technician and scribe where he witnessed the life changing effects of modern eye surgery. His desire to dedicate himself to ophthalmic surgery was solidified on a volunteer mission trip to Guatemala where blind patients had their vision restored.
After graduating cum laude from Brigham Young University, Dr. Waite earned his medical degree from the University of Utah, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society. He completed his internal medical internship at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, and residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee, earning the 2010 ASCRS Foundation Resident Excellence Award. At the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Dr. Waite completed a fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery.
After two years in private practice, Dr. Waite was invited back to the University of Tennessee Hamilton Eye Institute as the director of cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery, where he trained eye surgeons and participated in multiple research studies.
